I'm gonna be honest, a lot of this is about soccer (or football, whichever you prefer).
Kicking & Screaming
This is a hilarious underdog story about a 12 and under soccer team and their coach who has his own issues with the sport. Mike Ditka is among the amazing cast (as his amazing self). Some bits of the movie don't age well, but if you over look them you can end this movie with your sides splitting.
Mighty Ducks
Another underdog story about a community hockey team. It's the perfect movie to curl up on your couch, drink hot chocolate, and watch an amazing hockey team kick butt.
Ted Lasso
I came upon this show late, I thought you had to be obsessed with soccer in order to watch this show. But once I got into it I realized this show is more about mental health, families, and friendships. But please remember - "Football is Life." (Ted Lasso).
She's the Man
Another movie about soccer that is absolutely amazing. While Ted Lasso discussed the intersectionality of the sports world and mental health issues, this movie juggled the prejudices that female athletes face when compared to their male counterparts. But also this movie is hilarious - in no small part because of Amanda Bynes!
Remember the Titans
Get your tissues out. This biopic about an integrated high school football team in Virginia in the early 1970s. When the boys on the team (black and white students alike) get back from training camp, their job is to properly integrate the new black students (athletes and non-athletes) and get rid of any disgusting prejudices their angry neighbors might feel.
Welcome to Wrexham
Another soccer team based in the UK. This one is a documentary series about the team actors Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool, Just Friends, etc.) and Rob McElhenney (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) purchased. It takes a look at their Welsch team and the community they are based in.
McFarland, USA
A Kevin Costner movie about a team of Mexican-American teenagers that join their high school's cross country team that's based on a true story. Sign me up!
Friday Night Lights
I'm gonna be honest, I haven't see this one. But from what I understand it's about a high school football led by their awe-inspiring coach and his wife whose relationship basically holds the series together. I should probably watch it.
Blind Side
I know that give everything that's been revealed recently regarding that actual Michael and the family that 'adopted' him this isn't the best movie to talk about. But if you ignore all the fake-y family love stuff and focus on the football and the techniques that Michael uses that prove what an amazing athlete he is, you will get a lot out of this movie. (Available for purchase on different streaming platforms.)
Blades of Glory
You will go into this movie know less about figuring skating than you ever though was possible. However a lot of the movie takes place around two rivals turned friends coming back from their ruined figure skating careers to take back all the glory they lost years ago. (Available for purchase on different streaming platforms.)
